When its time to send me your website content, (text and images) please see the below notes. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.
Design and layout
If you haven’t done so already, you are welcome to email me links to other websites you like so I have an idea of the style and layout you have in mind for your own. If you want any specific colours used that are different to those in your logo, please let me know by emailing me examples or linking to colours online.
Its important I have your logo so I can build this into the design and use the colours elsewhere on the site. Please email me your logo as either a jpeg, PNG or PDF.
Unless I am copying information over from an existing website*, I will need to know the page heading, (these also will be used for the menu links) and text you want on each page. For example; Home Page, About Page, Services Page, Contact Page etc. This should be emailed to me using a Windows compatible programme such as Microsoft Word or simply within an email if that is easier for you. If you do not have Microsoft Word installed on your PC, you can use an online version for free here.
When writing the text for each page, remember to include ‘keywords’ to help your website get found in search results. As I do not proof read all text, please check your spelling and grammar etc is ready to be copied over.
Include any reference to images you want included in the approximate area on the page.
So, for example; the content for your Home Page, should look like…
(Note insert image: home-page-top1.jpeg)
Welcome to my website. I am a Gardener in Poole and provide my services to homes and businesses throughout the Dorset area including Bournemouth, Christchurch and Wimborne. I also offer Garden Landscaping, Grass Care and Garden Clearance…
Do not worry about styling your text, as this cannot always be transferred onto the website.
*If you require me to copy information over from your existing website, please let me know of any changes to text and images etc. New content should still be supplied as described on this page.
Images and Pictures
Good quality pictures are vital for a website. Even if you don’t have many on each page, you should have at least one good photo per page to represent the service or subject.
Please check the images you send are not small thumbnails. Ideally, they should be at least 2000 pixels wide so I can resize them to fit the applicable area on the page. If your images are too small, they will look poor quality on the website.
If you are not using your own images, make sure you are not infringing any copyright and ask the original owners permission if unsure. You can also purchase stock images online which you can legally use from websites such as https://www.shutterstock.com/photos or https://www.istockphoto.com/gb/stock-photos . There are also some websites that supply free stock images such as https://www.pexels.com/ or https://unsplash.com/
When sending images, please make it obvious as to which page they are for. For example, save the image as home-page-top1.jpeg (and remember to refer to the image on your page text, see example above).
You are welcome to insert images into your text document as a guide, but please remember to email me the original image file. Otherwise, your images may be too small or poor quality to use.
If you find your images are too big to send via email, you can use a free file sending service such as https://www.wetransfer.com .
