What is Website Hosting?

In order for your website to appear online, it has to be stored on the internet. For this, you need Hosting. Usually, the hosting would be supplied by the same people as your domain name. If you start using different companies for hosting and domain names etc, it can get very complicated to sort out technical issues.

Again, as with registering your domain name, you may find it a lot easier if your website designer can do this for you.  However, if you do decide to buy  your own hosting package, remember to use a company who have UK based servers – and check the hosting package you are opting for is suitable for whatever style of website you are having.

Don’t be too tempted to go for the very cheapest package – this is fine for a very small, basic website. But if you are counting on getting new business from your website its vital you have fast and reliable hosting. Expect to pay around £5 per month for a reasonable hosting package.

When you have created a hosting package, you will have access to a control panel. It is from here, your website designer can make your website work. Its vital you retain all your log in details so any website design or company you employ to work on your website can do so.

Again, if you are worried about the process of buying hosting and accessing the control panel – do nothing, and let your website design take care of this for you!
