Simply having a website
designed, by yourself or a professional designer, does not necessarily
mean it will appear in search results.... Its
important to make sure your website is designed and optimised to
comply with the major search engines such as Google,
Yahoo and Bing. If
you search for 'Website
Design Poole', my website should appear number one.
Ultimately, this is what I try and achieve for all websites I
design. Its important to remember its not an exact science.
How high any website appears in search results depends on a number
of factors, including; how well it was designed, how well its
optimised, how many websites link to it, how big it is, and generally
how competitive your business or service is. But to stand even a
chance of appearing, its essential to make sure all the basic
design rules are followed;

A well designed website.

Use of Title,
Description and Keyword meta tags, ensuring they are unique
and appropriate to each page. Eg: The page title bar should
never be the same on every page.

Text relevant to your
business or products keywords used throughout the website and
on each appropriate page.

Use of H1 and H2 tags
for important titles and keywords.

Appropriate naming of
image files and ALT tags relative to keywords.

Clear text links from
the home page to all important pages using keywords in links.

Appropriate URL's,
including keywords in the page address (or name) when
possible.

Links from your site to
relevant and important other websites and information
resources including any official groups or societies you are a
member of.

Links to YOUR website
from other appropriate websites and directories (avoiding spam
sites) using your keywords in the link.

A link to your home
page, including keywords at the footer of every page.

Set up of Google
account, and using an XML site map, web
master tools and
Google Local Business Results to maximise exposure for free.

Regularly update your
website! If you dont, the search engines will assume your not
bothered any more, and mark you down.

website, you may well be able to do most of the above for
yourself. If you cant, I will be than happy to review your website
