I need a website. Where do I start?

Many website designers will have you believe that getting a new website designed is difficult. Its not. I explain about how to choose a domain name and more on hosting in my separate posts, but below you’ll see just how easy it is to let me get on and create your web site from scratch with no jargon or faffing about.

The first thing is deciding on the style of website you need. A Standard (basic) website is the best option if you only need a simple, smart website to promote your business or service without the need to sell products or update the content yourself. You’ll need a CMS website if you run a busy website or club and will need to update the website quickly and frequently. Finally, if you are planning on starting a new online shop selling a number of products you’ll need a professional e-commerce website so you can add and edit products, orders and offers as well as easily take Credit Cards and Debit Cards via PayPal. Of course, if you are not sure, I can explain each in more detail.

When I design a website for you, you’ll be able to give me as much, or as little information as you like. The basics I need to know are the website address, (domain name or URL) you want to use for the website, your website name, your contact details and some information about your business or service. If you are not sure about the domain name, I can help you decide on the best option.

The first thing that needs to be done is either registering or setting up your domain name and your website hosting. Most people leave me to sort this out, but if you have already purchased a domain name and/or hosting, I’ll need to set it up to work with your new website.

Once I have the technical side of your website sorted, I’ll be able to begin work on the design and set up of your website. As soon as there is something uploaded for you to see, I will send you a link so you can preview the website and suggest any changes.

Once the design is finished, I will then submit your website to the leading search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.

With the website up and running, it should be appearing in search results in a few days. Depending on the style of website you opted for, you’ll be able to make any changes to it yourself whenever you like or simply email me with any updates you need making.

There, that sounds easy doesn’t it?
