Included with all my website design packages, is 12 months .co.uk domain registration, hosting and email. This helps make the whole process of getting a new website designed much easier, and cheaper. Ofcourse, if you already have a domain name registered, hosting or email address set up – its no problem.
You can’t have a website without a domain name. If your website is serving UK customers, you should have a website address ending with .co.uk . Your domain name should be short, easy to spell and unique. Avoid buying a domain name if someone has already purchased another version of it, for example; ending in .com / .org.uk / .biz etc. While your main website address will end with .co.uk, you should consider buying the .com version of your domain name too, just to stop someone else from copying you, (hence if the .com is already registered, choose a different .co.uk).
Domain names are usually renewed each year. Its important you renew your domain name if you want to keep your website as if you let it expire, someone else can buy it and start a completely new website using your name.
Like a domain name – without hosting, your website won’t work. Website hosting is where your website is stored so it can be accessed via the internet and viewed online. Most modern websites require hosting in order to be built.
The cost of hosting varies from one company to the next, and there are different levels of hosting depending on the size, and style of website you have. Its not always best to opt for the cheapest, as there is often a reason. Assuming you are based in the UK, choose a UK based hosting company that is well reviewed online.
Similar to a domain name – website hosting is renewable each year. If you don’t renew your website hosting, its likely your website will be initially suspended, then deleted if never renewed. So its important to pay the renewal on time.
The hosting I offer for websites I design, (when applicable) is provided by TSO Host and suitable for small to medium sized businesses.
Its not uncommon for website owners to use their own gmail. or other email address for enquiries from their website. However, it can look much more professional if your email address matches your website domain name. For example, rather than using email@example.com you could use firstname.lastname@example.org.
Email accounts are usually provided with a hosting package and can either be accessed by a secure, online webmail account or set up to work on your computer, phone or tablet.
